ELECTRICITY SALES

WHO IS A FREE CONSUMER?

Consumers defined as eligible consumers can meet their electrical energy needs from private electricity generation companies.

Consumers who use electrical energy above the amount of electricity consumption determined each year by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) are defined as “eligible consumers”. The limit set for being an eligible consumer is published by EMRA every year until 31 January. Persons and institutions that exceed this limit in the previous year or in the current year can become eligible consumers.

What is the Eligible Consumer Limit?

The lower limit on the amount of consumption required to become an eligible consumer is updated by EMRA every year.

What are the Advantages of Being an Eligible Consumer?

Eligible consumers can evaluate different price or campaign alternatives while purchasing electricity under market conditions. Non-eligible consumers, on the other hand, have to purchase electrical energy from the assigned supply company of the region they are affiliated with, and the electricity they consume is billed at the regulated tariffs determined by EMRA.

How Does the Post-Application Process Work to Benefit from the Benefits?

Supply companies that want to sell electricity to eligible consumers make their information about eligible consumers through the Market Management System. In accordance with the Electricity Market Balancing and Settlement Regulation (EMBSR), the entries of eligible consumers who will choose their supplier for the first time or change their current supplier must be made until 24:00 on the last business day before the sixth of the current month. These information entries are announced to the current supplier of the eligible consumer through the system. As of the first day of the first month after the requested period, the electricity supply from the new supplier starts. If the data entries are made after the specified dates, the energy supply starts on the first day of the next month. During the period until the start of the new tariff, the consumer supplies electricity at the current tariff price.

Can I Change My Supplier Company After Choosing A Supplier As Eligible Consumer?

There is no obstacle in the current EMRA regulations for an eligible consumer who wants to change his contracted supplier.

What Is The Process When My Contract With My Supplier Has Ended?

If the contract with the supplier is terminated for any reason, the supplier applies to the Market Operator. If the application is made until 24:00 on the last business day before the sixth of the current month, the electricity energy supply of the eligible consumer from the supplier ends on the last day of the current month. If the application is made after this date, the electricity supply from the current supplier of the eligible consumer ends as of the last day of the following month.
